DT Series, High Stack Type
0.5mm Pitch High-Speed Floating Connector

The DT series high stack type is a 0.5mm pitch floating board-to-board connector built for high-speed transmission at tall stacking heights. It pairs the DT platform’s signal performance with a stacked height range that reaches up to 30mm, and it saves board space compared to the standard DT type.

Key Points

• High-speed serial transmission equivalent to 8Gbps
• Floating amount of ±1.0mm in both X and Y directions, double the standard type
• Highly reliable design with a 1.5mm effective mating length
• Stacked height available from 18mm to 30mm (the exact height depends on the number of contacts)
• Seven contact sizes, from 30 pin to 140 pin
• Saves board space compared to the DT standard type

Double the Floating Amount

The high stack type doubles the floating amount over the standard DT. Where the standard type floats ±0.5mm in the X and Y directions, the high stack type floats ±1.0mm.

It gets there through two different floating structures. One lets the contacts move horizontally, the other lets them move vertically, and together they give the connector its ±1.0mm of positional tolerance for absorbing board misalignment across a tall stack.

Space Saving on the PCB

The high stack type reduces the mounting footprint versus the standard type. Compared at 60 pins, board width goes from 24.7mm on the standard type to 26.8mm on the high stack type, while depth drops from 10.38mm to 8.5mm, for a net mount-space reduction of 16%.

Hochgeschwindigkeits-Übertragung

The DT high stack type supports high-speed serial transmission equivalent to 8Gbps. KEL characterized it with eye diagrams at 8Gbps and 16Gbps (both at a 30mm stacked height), plus differential impedance, differential-mode insertion loss, and differential-mode return loss, all referenced to 100Ω. All transmission data is for reference only.

Stacking and Mating Combinations

The high stack type reaches stacked heights up to 30mm by mating a plug and receptacle across a range of part numbers. Available stacked heights are 8, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30mm, with the specific plug and receptacle combination, floating amount (±0.5mm or ±1.0mm), and available contact counts varying by height.

Mating method by type:

• Straight standard plug + straight standard receptacle: stacked mating, 8 to 20mm
• Straight standard plug + straight 10mm-height receptacle: stacked mating, 18 to 30mm
• Right-angle standard plug + straight standard receptacle: vertical mating
• Right-angle standard plug + right-angle standard receptacle: horizontal mating

Some combinations are available by request; contact KEL sales.

Production System

DT series production runs in a clean area to prevent foreign-matter adhesion. KEL’s Yamanashi Factory, in operation since October 2013, houses a Class 100,000 clean area with fully automatic lines. Target products for this line are the DY, DU, and DT series.

Where DT Fits in the Floating Connector Line

DT is the high-speed member of KEL’s floating connector family, with many variations including multi-pin (up to 240-pin) and the high stack type.

• DU: 0.4mm pitch, vertical mating, ±0.4mm float, small size to reduce PCB mounting space, up to 200 pins
• DY: 0.5mm pitch, stack and vertical mating, ±0.5mm float, the standard for small floating connectors with more than 70 pin and stack-height types
• DT: 0.5mm pitch, stack/vertical/horizontal mating, ±0.5mm float (standard) up to ±1.0mm (high stack), 1.5mm effective mating length, applicable to high-speed transmission
• DW: 0.635mm pitch, stack and vertical mating, ±0.7mm float, the largest float in the KEL floating connector line, low-cost overseas production
