0.4mm Pitch, 34-Pin, Micro-Coaxial Cable Connector

Purpose-built for medical imaging and precision electronics, the USLS21 series brings KEL’s proven micro-coaxial connector platform to a solder-terminated, 34-pin format engineered around the signal counts medical devices demand.

Overview

Micro-coaxial cable is prized for being thin and compact while retaining a coaxial structure for high signal integrity and flexibility. KEL’s micro-coax connectors carry those signals without sacrificing that advantage, and have an established track record in imaging equipment and a broad range of markets, earning strong evaluations for product size, noise performance, and reliability.

The USLS21 series extends that heritage. It keeps the compact footprint, EMI countermeasures, and reliability of the existing line, while adding the signal count and cable-assembly solder termination that medical equipment requires.

 

Why 34 Pins?

When KEL surveyed medical equipment to develop the USLS series, a pattern emerged: required signal counts are typically multiples of 16. For a 32-signal application, a 30-pin connector falls short and a 40-pin connector is oversized.

The answer was a 34-pin part with 32 signals plus 2 spare. It is, in the truest sense, a connector made for medical devices.

The solder-type development also widened cable compatibility, adding support for AWG#42 and AWG#44. Existing press-fit (IDC) versions are available in 20, 30, and 40-pin.

 

EMI Countermeasures

Preserving the transmission characteristics of coaxial cable at the connector interface is critical. USLS21 does this through three design choices:

• Gold plating for stable, low-resistance contact
• Multi-point ground contact — 8 grounding points on the board side
• A shortened, single-path ground route via the mated cross-section, reducing the ground path distance

Together these improve both transmission and EMI performance, keeping signal quality intact from cable to board.
