TSL Series Overview

0.55mm Pitch High-Performance Coaxial Harness

The TSL series is a next-generation coaxial harness built for high-speed differential transmission, developed under the concept “NeGSSUC”: Next Generation Super Speed Micro (μ) Coaxial Connector. It was created to answer the demands of 5G, IoT, and AI.

32Gbps Differential Transmission

The TSL series supports high-speed differential transmission up to 32Gbps at a harness length of 1,000mm.

At 0.55mm pitch with 31 pins, the harness carries 10 differential pairs (20 coaxial AWG#32 wires), for an aggregate of 320Gbps across a single harness. Low loss and low skew are what make that high-speed signal support possible.

Impedance control

Impedance is controlled by tuning the material, shape, and dimensions of the connector, which improves attenuation. Beyond impedance control, resonance is addressed by keeping the ground connection points and the transmission path gradual rather than abrupt.

Reduced insertion depth and minimal stubs

Effective mating length for contact reliability is 0.5mm, which holds down how far the mating part penetrates. Stub length, which directly affects transmission characteristics, is optimally designed as well.

Multi-point grounding

The right-angle type (TSL00-31L) has 24 ground points; the straight type (TSL00-31S) has 15. A multi-point spring contact handles the ground between connectors.

The TSL carries over the multi-point grounding mechanism already proven in KEL’s conventional micro-coaxial cable connectors, along with a metal shell cover that surrounds the entire connector, for stronger noise suppression.

Paired with RUOTA High-Performance Coaxial Cable

Low loss and low skew are achieved by combining the connector with RUOTA, a high-performance coaxial cable from Totoku Electric with little attenuation and delay. Using RUOTA is what allows the connector’s performance to be fully realized at 32Gbps.

Cable length and bit rate

• Harness length is supported from 100mm to 6,000mm. Contact KEL for shorter or longer runs.
• Recommended coaxial cables are AWG#32 and AWG#36.

Guaranteed as a harness product

In high-speed transmission, the quality of the cable assembly is said to determine performance. KEL processes harnesses at designated factories and inspects every part before delivery, so the TSL is guaranteed as a harness product rather than sold as loose components.

For RUOTA AWG#32 up to 1,000mm, intra-pair skew is guaranteed at 10ps.

Skew under bending

Skew measurements taken with the cable bent show the harness can be used without issue even inside small equipment.

Variations and Pin Assignment

Variations

• The connection method supports both vertical and horizontal connection.
• The straight type (TSL00-31S) includes a suction tape and supports automatic mounting.

Pin assignment

• AWG#32: 20 coaxial connections across 10 differential pairs.
• AWG#36: full connection, all 31 coax.

Other arrangements can be accommodated flexibly. Contact KEL to discuss.

Lock Mechanism

The connector uses a lock structure with a positive click feel. A pull tape is fitted, so the connector unlocks by pulling the tape alone, making removal easy and reliable and improving workability.

Target Equipment

The TSL fits three broad jobs: replacing optical fiber cable to reduce cost, long in-equipment wiring runs (for example 5Gbps at 5,000mm), and high-speed in-equipment signal wiring (for example 32Gbps at 1,000mm).
