Also known as a half-pitch connector, a 1.27mm pitch connector features a pin spacing of 1.27mm, which is exactly half of the standard 2.54mm (full pitch). This reduced spacing allows for more compact designs and higher-density connections, making it ideal for space-constrained applications.
The 2.54mm pitch originates from the imperial system, equivalent to 1/10 inch (1 inch = 2.54 cm), as connectors were initially developed in the United States. However, today the industry widely adopts the metric system for standardization.
While full-pitch connectors (2.54mm) are commonly standardized under DIN and MIL specifications, half-pitch connectors (1.27mm) are more likely to be custom or proprietary designs developed by individual manufacturers.
Where Are Half-Pitch Connectors Used?
Half-pitch connectors have been in use for over 30 years and are widely adopted in industrial and control equipment, including:
- Semiconductor control devices
- Smart meters
- Factory automation robots
- Railway systems
- Power generation equipment
- ATMs
